I've never been much of a scholar, and certainly not a student of comparative religions. As a youngster my family eschewed the ritual Sunday worship service, and although we didn't - to the chagrin of the extended family - partake of the weekly social/educational/soul saving opportunities presented by our local church I was taught, by example rather than rote, how to be a good person.
The little thinking I have done regarding religion seems to point to basic similarities between them (discounting fundamentalists): that we should treat people the way we'd like to be treated. That's all I'm trying to impart to my children - that and the concepts of racial, gender and social equality.
I'm hoping, as I do every year about this time, that 2018 will bring enlightenment to us all regarding these basic human rights. Perhaps a little consideration. Maybe some common sense.
And I'm hoping for you that the new year brings you happiness, health and prosperity - however you choose to define them.
Love and peace to you all from our House Of Strays....
