Tribute Shows Are Fun ...

... and a great way to recharge the batteries.

My friend Robby Roberson (click the name to learn more about him) and I just played a show in tribute to the music of Bob Dylan. It's a treat to play classic tunes by one of my songwriting idols - with a friend with whom I share such a fine musical connection. As a singer-songwriter it's easy to get caught up in the creation of my own thing - to the point of obsession. It's good (for me, anyway) to occasionally step away from my work and revisit some of my roots, some of those things that have informed my musical development.

Robby and I tried to add something of ourselves to the Dylan songs we chose to perform . We didn't want to play jukebox versions, so we allowed ourselves to take liberties with tempo and feel, we stretched out on some things and condensed others, while staying in view of the original. It was fun. Really fun. And judging from the reaction of the audience they thought it was fun too.

Here's a video of our version of IF NOT FOR YOU for your perusal. I hope you enjoy listening as much as we enjoyed performing!

And here's my live version of Crash On The Levee (Down In The Flood) for your FREE downloading, listening and sharing pleasure.
