You write an instrumental!
I swear a couple of these current tunes I'm working on have been in the same state of disarray for months. Probably longer, if I were to be completely honest. But those of you who are songwriters know this happens, right? What I have to fight when it does happen is the feeling of "ok, well, that's it, I'll never write another song! I guess it was great while it lasted...."
What do YOU do in those instances? How do you deal with your inner voice (critical little bastard that it is)? Sometimes I'll pull out a tune that's older and maybe rework it. Sometimes I'll write bridges to existing songs whether they need them or not. Sometimes I'll crank up my lapsteel and watch the dogs run for the back yard.
The main thing for me is to keep working, to not give in to the self-doubt that can so easily seduce me away from my path.
Here's a tune of mine that's been through so many iterations it bears scant resemblance to the original version. I hope you enjoy this exceedingly rough version of "Warp And Weft"
