From the recording State Of Grace
Lyrics
State Of Grace
I’ve been all ‘round this country from end to end
There’s just one place I have yet to wend
I’ve never set foot in the state of Grace
‘Cause I’m not really sure how to get there
Seems I’ve been wand’ring for ages
Is Grace a state of the Union or a state of the mind
Or just a construct to help us feel better in time
Is there a highway that runs through the State of Grace
I’m not really sure how to get there
And my atlas is missing some pages
I’ve been on the mountain, I’ve been in the mud
I’ve tasted honey and I’ve tasted blood
I’ve been washed away and been hung out to dry
And I want to be forgiven
I’m not really sure what forgiveness means
Is Grace a destination or just the journey itself
Can I get there without asking for help
How will I know when I arrive
Will there be a welcoming committee
Or just a old man on the corner holding a sign
That says I’ve been on the mountain, I’ve been in the mud
I’ve tasted honey and I’ve tasted blood
I’ve been washed away and been hung out to dry
And I want to be forgiven
I’m not really sure what forgiveness means
I’ve been all ‘round this country from end to end
I’ve never set foot in the state of Grace
